Vafer develops GIS module for optical network planning

After a period of systematic development, the company Vafer has developed a GPON-based GIS module for optical network planning. The module supports automated and optimized high-level optical network planning by reusing existing public infrastructure. The module focuses on the end user, taking into account the shortest possible distances on publicly-owned real-estate and plots, dimensioning the planned network and calculating / assessing the investment costs. A key advantage of such network planning is investment planning of optical networks that is time-optimized, enabling investors, public communications networks operators, to dynamically adjust planned investments to actual on-site conditions and the financial sources available. The use of the tool significantly decreases the time from idea to optical network planning and realization. In the second phase, Vafer’s GEOINdata geoinformation system for analysis, review and statistical treatment of public infrastructure will be upgraded with a GPON-based module for optical network planning.
