Slovene telecoms regulator preparing for new mobile frequency auction

The Slovene Agency for Telecommunications Networks and Services (AKOS) has announced that it has started to plan a new public auction for the allocation of frequencies for the provision of mobile services.

The frequencies to be auctioned off are those in the 700 MHz, 1400 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100MHz, 2300 MHz, 3500 MHz and 3700 MHz frequency bands.

The auction comes at a time when mobile internet use in Slovenia on a rise, with future demand only increasing, highlighting the need for additional frequency spectrum for mobile, explains AKOS.

At the same time the auction is seen as an important contribution to the use of wireless technologies, a cost-effective manner of fulfilling the demands of the Digital Agenda for Europe that is to see all households, even rural, have access to broadband internet of at least 30 Mbit/s by 2020.

AKOS has begun selecting consultants to carry out the auction and will keep the public updated on all further activities, with a consultation to come.
